What are Budgies?
Budgies are one of the most common pets kept in an American Household. These little birds are also known as parakeets here in the U.S. These little creatures are very intelligent as well as interactive with humans. Unlike a fish that goes round in circles mindlessly, budgies are fun to watch, play with, and care for. Budgies come in an assortment of colors and mutations and are very easy to tame.
The purpose of this website is to provide essential information on the care and well being of these beautiful birds. We are here to educate and enlighten people with a desire to know more about these tiny birds whether you are looking to own one or already own one, we will provide with the best information possible. So what is a Budgie Budgies are small parakeets that are Native to Australia. In the wild budgies are green and travel in flocks. These little birds were captured, brought to England and were first bred in captivity during the 1800's, and have been popular ever since. Ever since they come in a variety of mutations or colors. It is so fun to breed these birds, responsibly of course and see what they produce. There are two types of Budgies; the first is what is known to be a standard budgie. Standard budgies are the most commonly kept birds in the U.S. The second type is known as an English budgie. An English budgie is a little larger than the standard budgie and has very exaggerated looking feathers. The English variety was breed in captivity by selective breeding. English Budgies are more commonly referred to as Show Budgies. Show Budgies are the ones that you are more likely to see at bird shows. There are many factors to consider before you even think about buying any pet. Please, please, please do not ever buy any type of pet on impulse. It is always beneficial to do research on the animal before you buy. Below are some questions to ask yourself before you buy a budgie. * Have you done research? * Are you financially stable? * Is there a avian vet near by? * Are you prepared to provide food and water daily? It is more advisable if you visit more than one pet store or breeder. Choose the best one on your list. Do not try to buy a budgie that looks sick just because you feel sorry for it. This will save you the trouble of having to spend money on vet bills and the worry that the budgie might die during transit. Instead let the breeder or retail pet store know of the ill bird. It is their responsibility, or else is considered animal cruelty if they do not provide any help for the budgie. |
